Work Study Program

                                      Work Study Program Application Instructions

Requirements

  • be enrolled AND registered for courses as a full-time resident or commuter undergraduate student
  • havea FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) completed  
  • if work study eligible and offered a job, providing original documentation (no copies allowed) to show both identity and authorization to work is required: see approved documents needed
1.  Complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

2.  Apply to Work Study Program to see if you qualify:
  • log into Handshake:
             a. from computer: southwest.joinhandshake.com  
             b. from mobile app: https://qrco.de/bdEvx3 
  • enter your USW username (student ID number) and password (must be registered for courses to be able to log in)
  • if having difficulty logging in, contact Career Services: careerservices@usw.edu
  • click on “Jobs”  
  • click on “Filters”
  • under “Job Type”, select “On Campus” and then “Show results” 
  • select “Work Study Program” and click “Apply”
  • after applying, you will receive an email, notifying you of your eligibility status, and in Handshake: if your application status under "My jobs" is updated to "hired", this means you are eligible to apply to a Work Study Job; if updated to "declined", you are not eligible for work study
3.  If you qualify, to apply to a Work Study Job (will be posted Thursday, August 24, 2023):  
  • a resume will be required- for help with building or improving your resume, see Resume Writing Resources 
  • as you'll be required to upload a resume, it is strongly recommended to log into Handshake from a computer (see link above) 
  • after preparing a resume and logging into Handshake click on “Jobs”
  • click on "Filters”
  • check the “Work study” option (log in from a computer if not seeing this on mobile app) and then select "Show results" 
  • view and apply to Work Study jobs
