Office of Special Services

The Office of Special Services at University of the Southwest is directed by Jose Tarin-Valdez. This office exists to assist students who have documented disabilities as they pursue their educational goals.

To be eligible for services, students MUST disclose their disability to appropriate faculty and staff at University of the Southwest and provide the appropriate documentation to the Office of Special Services.

575-492-2140 or jtarin-valdez@usw.edu to make an appointment. If students do not have the required documentation of disabilities but believe they may have undiagnosed disabilities, they may contact the Office of Special Services to discuss evaluation options.

Affordable Colleges Online, an organization dedicated to providing free higher education tools and information for current and future college students and their families, has recently published a new resource for students with disabilities, titled “Making College Affordable: A Guide for Students with Disabilities.”  Multiple experts in the field with experience in academia, financial aid, and law contributed to the content in this resource guide, including:
